2 Years

2 years ago today, I made the decision to turn my life (and my health) around.

I weighed in at 332 pounds.

I had just lost my Mother to cancer.

I felt horrible.

I looked horrible.

It was a dark time in my life.

I put on a smile for my husband and kids,

but in reality,

I was falling apart inside.

On a whim, I started counting my calories

and exercising.

I never thought that I’d stick with it.

In a year, I lost 90 pounds.

Year two was not as easy as year one.

My weight loss really slowed down.

It’s frustrating, but I’m hanging in there.

I’ve come too far to quit now.

I lost 20 pounds in year two,

bringing my total lost to 110 pounds.

I may not have lost a lot in the last year,

but that doesn’t make me any less proud of where I am now.

Two years ago I was wearing: 26/28 jeans, 4x/5x shirts and 26/28 dresses.

Today I wear: 16/18 jeans, 1x/2x shirts and 16/18 dresses.

Fun fact:  I wore a size 18 dress to my senior prom 16 years ago.

The bottom pair of pants are what I wearing in the above photo.

They are a size 26.

The pair on top is a 16!

My wedding ring is 2 sizes too big!

I was really hoping to have a better loss for this year,

but I’m really not complaining.

I know what I am capable of and it can

only get better.

I ran a half marathon less than 2 weeks ago.

I couldn’t have done that last year.

I feel so good about how I look and how I feel.

My confidence has increased 10 fold.

I love shopping for clothes!

I don’t have to search for the biggest sizes any more!

I’m really looking forward to the next year and what it has in store.

Whether it be another 20 pound loss, or only 5.

I will never go back, only forward.

Mother’s Day 2014

On Mother’s Day of 2012, I had my husband take a photo of the kids and me together.  It was that photo, along with the recent passing of my Mom, that sparked my journey to a healthier life.

Now the photos are a tradition, one that I look forward to every year.  I never miss an opportunity to get in photos with my children any more.

Not only am I changing, but my kids are, too!  I can’t believe how grown up they look…especially my son!

I had a great Mother’s Day.  We spent our first weekend at our seasonal camping spot.  I got to open my gifts from the kids on the deck with a view of the lake. Warm air and sunshine were plenty.  I was definitely feeling the love.  We had dinner with my mother in law, brother in law, sister in law, her mother and my brother.  Lots of fun and laughs were had.

Mother’s Day is a hard one for me still.  This was the third one since my Mom passed.

This is one of my favorite photos of my Mom.  She loved riding her motorcycle.  We had beautiful weather yesterday and I know she would have been out riding if she were still here.  I miss her tremendously.

Half Marathon…Check

Yesterday was the big day!

19, 19, 1985!

The day I had been training for for almost 7 months…the Borgess Run for the Health of It Half Marathon!

It was cool and sunny, perfect for running.  I had my running buddy, Reita with me.  We started this journey together and we were going to finish it together, too.

Ready to run!

13 miles is a LONG run! Previous to this race, 10.25 miles was my longest run.  I kept saying to myself going into this “If you can do 10, you can do 13”. Easier said than done that’s for sure!  The last 3 miles were the most difficult and I found that I struggled the most through mile 12.

At mile 9.

My official time was 2:53:56.  That time included 2 bathroom stops.  My total running time minus bathroom breaks was 2:47:59.  I was figuring I’d go at least 2:45, so I am very happy with my time. I just wanted to finish in under 3 hours.

Here are some more photos!

This is definitely an experience I’ll remember forever!

I’m feeling pretty good today, I was pretty sore this morning until I started moving around and such.  I did aggravate an old ankle injury, so I have a little bit of swelling in my right ankle.  I’m sure that with ice and rest, it’ll be fine in a couple of days.

Overall it was an amazing experience!  One that I will definitely repeat at some point, I’m just not sure when!  =)

Run happy!

Progress Photos!

Yesterday, I reached 110 pounds lost!

As promised, new progress photos!

I know that my face photo is from a couple weeks ago, but not much has changed!

A friend sent me the photo from 2009…I was around 315-320lbs. I think.  It’s a great photo to do a side view comparison with because, not surprisingly, I do not really have a ton of photos like this of me.  The photo on the right was taken this morning prior to my workout.

If you would like to see all my progress photos, you can check them out here.

Did you know that this blog has a Facebook page?

Go have a look around!

The Holidays are Over…Thankfully

I am so glad that it’s January!  The holidays are the worst for me.  The temptation to eat badly always gets me.  I give in and then I pay for it.

I gained some weight over Christmas and New Years.  About 8 pounds.  I think a couple pounds of it was water though, thanks to the arrival of my TOM just before Christmas.  I have to admit that I didn’t exercise much while the kids were on Christmas break.  I really just took some time to sleep in and be lazy.  Although, I have to admit that it got old after awhile.

I’m back at it though and things are going great.  I’ve lost all but 0.4 of the weight I gained.  I am so ready to see some new numbers!  My lowest weight is 224.6 (107.4 loss) and I’m sitting at 225 now.  I would love to see the teens here soon!

I have some photos to share.

I’m going to start posting regularly again.  I really miss posting and doing weigh days.

I’m so excited for what 2014 holds!

It’s My Birthday!!

Today is my 34th birthday!!  Woo hoo!

Even though I am clearly an adult, I still get super excited about my birthday. It’s a day to celebrate me!

I’ve got some new photos to post…progress since my 33rd birthday.  I’m down 45 pounds since last year!

I was 32 when I started this crazy journey…I had no idea how much my life would change by 34.  I look better, I feel better.  I can do so much more!  I’m training to run a half marathon!  I am more active with my kids.  My life is 100% better.

Sorry to cut this short, but it’s time to celebrate!

Running Fool

On December 1st, I participated in my first Ugly Sweater Run!  I bought a sweater at Goodwill, decked it out Christmas style and then ran a 5k race through Grand Rapids.  I had tons of fun and ran my fastest 5k to date!  My time was 35:14 with an average pace of 11:42/mile!  My previous best was 36:31, 11:48/mile.  I ran the race with my good friend, Reita.  We always have a blast at these events.

On Wednesday morning, I woke to temperatures is the mid 40’s, which for me is perfect running weather.  I decided that I was going to take a run, but didn’t make any plans for how far I’d actually run.  It was foggy that morning, so I decided to stay in town rather than go out into the country…much safer on the sidewalks when it’s foggy!

After my first 30 minutes I was at 2.23 miles (13:01 pace) which is a little slower than I’d like, but I was feeling good and really enjoying my run.  Ideally, when I run, I like to keep my pace steady or gradually increase it.  So, if I was at 4.5 miles by 60 minutes, that’d be great.  At 60 minutes, I was at 5 miles!  I was shocked, but it was great motivation to continue on.  I decided then that I was going to make this my farthest run.  My distance to beat was 8.3 miles.

At, 90 minutes, I was at 7.78 miles…I knew I had it in the bag, so I decided to go for my first 10 miler.  My pace was great…my best ever for this distance.  I knew if I kept that pace, at 120 minutes, I’d be well over 10 miles.

I didn’t quite make 2 hours, but that didn’t matter.  I got home, stopped my app, and was blown away by my stats.

I ran 10.23 miles in 1:55:40!  My pace was 11:19/mile!

In comparison, I ran my 8.3 run (my previous best) in 1:47:51 and my pace was 13:00/mile!

I blew that run out of the water!!

I still am in awe, but one thing is for sure…I am going to ROCK my half marathon in May!!  There is no stopping me now!
