It’s My Birthday!!



Today is my 34th birthday!!  Woo hoo!

Even though I am clearly an adult, I still get super excited about my birthday. It’s a day to celebrate me! 

I’ve got some new photos to post…progress since my 33rd birthday.  I’m down 45 pounds since last year!



I was 32 when I started this crazy journey…I had no idea how much my life would change by 34.  I look better, I feel better.  I can do so much more!  I’m training to run a half marathon!  I am more active with my kids.  My life is 100% better.

Running Fool



On December 1st, I participated in my first Ugly Sweater Run!  I bought a sweater at Goodwill, decked it out Christmas style and then ran a 5k race through Grand Rapids.  I had tons of fun and ran my fastest 5k to date!  My time was 35:14 with an average pace of 11:42/mile!  My previous best was 36:31, 11:48/mile.  I ran the race with my good friend, Reita.  We always have a blast at these events.

On Wednesday morning, I woke to temperatures is the mid 40’s, which for me is perfect running weather.  I decided that I was going to take a run, but didn’t make any plans for how far I’d actually run.  It was foggy that morning, so I decided to stay in town rather than go out into the country…much safer on the sidewalks when it’s foggy!

  After my first 30 minutes I was at 2.23 miles (13:01 pace) which is a little slower than I’d like, but I was feeling good and really enjoying my run.  Ideally, when I run, I like to keep my pace steady or gradually increase it.  So, if I was at 4.5 miles by 60 minutes, that’d be great.  At 60 minutes, I was at 5 miles!  I was shocked, but it was great motivation to continue on.  I decided then that I was going to make this my farthest run.  My distance to beat was 8.3 miles.

At, 90 minutes, I was at 7.78 miles…I knew I had it in the bag, so I decided to go for my first 10 miler.  My pace was great…my best ever for this distance.  I knew if I kept that pace, at 120 minutes, I’d be well over 10 miles.

I didn’t quite make 2 hours, but that didn’t matter.  I got home, stopped my app, and was blown away by my stats.


I ran 10.23 miles in 1:55:40!  My pace was 11:19/mile!

In comparison, I ran my 8.3 run (my previous best) in 1:47:51 and my pace was 13:00/mile!

I blew that run out of the water!!

I still am in awe, but one thing is for sure…I am going to ROCK my half marathon in May!!  There is no stopping me now!

I made a small goal for myself a few weeks ago.  I wanted to be at 105 pounds lost by Thanksgiving…and I did it a week early! Sweet!  This made my day!

As awesome as this is, I also had another great thing happen today and it involves my running.  As you may know, I am training for my first half marathon.  So, I’ve really trying to work on both speed and distance.  Today, I ran 6.28 miles.  The last time I ran this distance (on the same route) I ran it in 1:24:41, with an average pace of 13:33/mile.  Today, I finished in 1:17:46, with an average pace of 12:23/mile! I improved my time by almost 7 minutes! 

I don’t think that I can hold that pace for 13 miles, but I can really tell that my stamina is increasing.  Every day I gain a little more confidence that I can do it.  I can conquer the half marathon.  5 months and 13 days left!!

It’s been a few weeks since my last update!  Things are still going well, as you can see.  I love the fact that the weight is coming off so easily now. I’m not taking it for granted either…I know that things can change in a heartbeat.  I know as long as I am doing my workouts, logging all my food, staying within my calories and drinking plenty of water I should be okay.

I did hit a bump in the road a couple of weeks ago.  **This is going to be TMI, just so you are aware… When it’s my TOM, all I want to do is stuff my face.  Well last month, my TOM and Halloween fell at the same time…it was bad.  I ate waaayyy too much candy.  I knew I shouldn’t, but I was CRAVING THE CHOCOLATE!  Then, the Saturday after Halloween, I went to a party at my sister’s house and proceeded to eat waaayyy too much there too.  So, between the water retention (I retain water something fierce during my TOM) and the bad eating, by Monday the 4th, I was up SEVEN pounds!  I’ve been known to put on up to 5 during my TOM, but when I saw 7, I freaked!  I said goodbye to the candy and started eating like I am supposed to and drinking my water.

I spent all of last week losing that weight and was finally back to where I was by Monday (the 11th).  It sucks that I lost a whole week playing catch up!


Now for the Milestone!!

Today is the 18 month anniversary of my start of this crazy weight loss journey!  It’s so hard to believe that I’ve been at this for a year and a half!

I never thought I’d have the will to keep at this.  I am so glad that I stuck with it!

Some stats:

In 18 months I have:

Lost 104.2 pounds (31.39% of by body weight)

Gone from a 26/28 jean to a 16/18 jean

Gone from a 5x shirt to a 1x/2x shirt

Gained LOADS of confidence

Have learned to really LOVE the person I am



I can’t wait to see what the next 6 months will bring!

Journey to 13.1




I mentioned a few weeks ago, that I am training for a half marathon race next May.  I have decided to chronicle my training here, dubbing it my “Journey to 13.1”. 


At first, the idea of running that far was very daunting.  I’ve mapped it out, clocked it in my truck.  It’s still daunting.  But the idea has settled in and I am determined to reach this goal.  For so many reasons…for me, for the person I used to be.  For my Mom.  (She’d be so proud of me.  I know it.)  For every person who has ever doubted themselves.


I’ve been running weekly, different routes.  Adding miles here and there.  Today I ran my longest run…8.3 miles!  My total time was 1 hour 48 minutes.  My average pace was 13:00/mile.  I am surprised and glad that I was able to keep up that pace for so long.  The last (and only) time I ran 8 miles (8.19) I ran it 2 hours and 2 minutes.  I cut 14 minutes off plus I went farther! 


To be honest, that run wiped me out!  I have been achey and sore all day.  I can’t imagine how I will feel when I start running 13 miles!  I’m sure that I’ll drop more weight with this training.  That’ll make it easier on my body.  It’s not easy carting around 230 pounds on an 8 mile run!  Ideally, I’d like to be down to 200 or less (hopefully less) by race day, which is May 4.  That gives me 6 months to train and lose more weight.

So, as you may have seen the other day, I have reached 100 pounds!  Even though it’s been almost a week, I’m still in a little bit of shock!  I cannot believe that I have made it this far.  When I started, I didn’t think I’d last a week.  Now it’s been 17 months and I’m still going strong!
